Person to person transfer:

Both licence holders must visit a licensed firearms dealer who will act as an intermediary to facilitate the transfer. Before the transfer can be processed.

If the current owner of the firearm is unable to attend the transfer you will need to complete a form which outlines the written authority of the original owner to legally transfer the firearm into the new firearms owner.

To transfer ownership of a firearm between two victorian licence holders, the person receiving the firearm must meet the following requirements.

- Valid/must need a Victorian firearms licence (physical ID is only accepted, no digital ID will be accepted under no circumstances)
- Have a genuine reason for processing the firearm.
- A valid and current permit to acquire. Miall’s can do the electronic permit which can be used at any dealer who uses the online system or you can do it from the Victorian Police which you'll receive a paper permit in the mail. You can pay for the permit at a dealer or ONLY at a westpac bank (this may take up to 24 hours to clear).
- The firearm being transferred

Transfer limitation/holding:

Miall’s does not hold witness transfers unless the current owner of the firearm is deceased.

Sending firearms to another dealer:

Miall’s can post your firearm/s to any dealer in Australia.

When posting a firearm/s to another dealer, the firearm will be transferred into Miall’s name accordingly and take off the owner's licence.

The receiver on the other end will need a permit to acquire to make this transaction legal.

Here’s a list of the things we need to legally send your firearm to another dealer:

- Your license (to put the firearm/s through our books).
- Name of dealer to be sent to, with all information as to where it needs to be sent.
- Details of the end receiver – Contact number and name (to make things easier on their end to pick up).

Intrastate:

When your firearm arrives from another dealer within Victoria you will be contacted directly and you may pick up your firearm in store with a valid permit to acquire.

Pricing for postage:

To send firearms intrastate it is a minimum of $100.00 per firearm, each firearm on top of this is an additional $15.00 per firearm. This price includes postage and insurance. Oversized packaging will require an additional cost according to its weight.

Pricing for receiving:

To receive firearms interstate it is $80.00 per firearm.

Interstate:

If someone wants to transfer a firearm/s from a non Victoria licence holder they must transfer the firearm dealer to dealer. Firearms cannot be brought in directly from another state into Victoria to be transferred into another to a Victorian licence holder.

When the firearm arrives interstate you will need to allow up to 5 business days for the firearm to be interstate checked.

Due to firearms registry in each state being custom and not communicating with each other the legal rules are different in each state.

An interstate check is to see if the firearm has had a previous Victorian registration which will need a Police Reference Number (PRN). This ensures that firearms are not duplicated and are authentic.

Pricing for posting:

To send firearms interstate it is a minimum of $145.00 per firearm. Each firearm on top of this is an additional $15.00 per firearm. This price includes postage and insurance. Oversized packaging will require an additional cost according to its weight.

Pricing for receiving:

To receive firearms interstate it is $145.00 per firearm.

For security reasons:

- We DO NOT give out tracking numbers on this service for both intrastate and interstate packages.
- We DO NOT post packages to remote areas and we only send directly to licensed dealers.
- We DO NOT send ammunition, this is something which is difficult and costly to send.
